Molluscum

Molluscum contagiosum is a common skin disease caused by a virus. These small, dome-shaped, pink or flesh-colored bumps can appear anywhere on the skin. The virus easily spreads through contact with an infected item, to other parts of the body by picking or scratching or skin-to-skin contact with others. Patients with eczema or compromised immune systems are more prone to this disease.

Many schools have adopted a policy of alerting parents of the disease and requiring that students be free of molluscum if diagnosed. We will provide a letter to submit to your school once your child has been treated.

Chelsea Skin & Laser takes the treatment of molluscum seriously. We typically use cryosurgery to freeze the lesions, curettage to scrape the lesions away, topical applications, immunomodulators, or retinoids.
